Our Recent Elections

Filed under:  by Tom Musselman @ 2:22 pm

As is often said, change has come to Fredericksburg.  This proved true once again, after the results of our City Council election this May 10.  The voters turned out in record numbers, with 1524 citizens casting ballot for two City Council seats and the Mayor’s spot.

(Councilman Dan Mittel’s seat was open, due to term limits, and incumbent Councilman Kevin MacWithey was up for reelection.  Mayor Jeryl Hoover, also up for reelection, ran unopposed).

After the dust settled, Fredericksburg decided to go with two new faces, David Pedregon, owner of Dogologie, (784 votes) and Jeff Jeffers, owner of Auslander Restaurant (744 votes).  Councilman Kevin MacWithey received 653 votes and newcomer Randy Thompson garnered 508 votes.   (Mayor Hoover had 1197 cast in his favor.)

David and Jeff will join myself, Councilman Tim Dooley, as well as Mayor Hoover on the council bench.  I welcome our new members and look forward to their ideas and input.

I also want to thank outgoing Councilmen, Dan Mittel and Kevin MacWithey, who have served our city honorably for the past eight and four years, respectively.  It has been a pleasure working with them both.  I know they will continue to offer their expertise and remain active in our community.

I am encouraged by the high voter turnout for both the city election (1524 or 21% of voters) and the school board election (3236 voters), which also included a bond issue and tax exemption matter. Voting shows involvement and interest in the community by its citizens, which is crucial to our democratic process.

I encourage everyone to take part in the process.  Come to City Council meetings, contact your city officials with what is on your mind, keep informed as to the issues of our community.

I welcome your comments, concerns, and compliments.  You can reach me via the contact information on this website.

I am honored and eager to continue working for you, working for Fredericksburg, working together.
