A New Year for Fredericksburg
Happy 2012! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. I have often said that we are indeed fortunate to live in a town such as Fredericksburg, which was especially true this past holiday season. I have received so many compliments on our magical Christmas decorations and lights on Markplatz and Main Street. I once again want to thank the Community Christmas Commitee for all their hard work in making this dream come true.
Looking back, 2011 seemed like a tough year. A still struggling economy, the brutal heat and accompanying drought, wildfires instead of wildflowers, all left people feeling down. However, the year-end numbers show something very different- in actuality, Fredericksburg was up! Hotel occupancy tax figures and sales tax collections both show that 2011 was a record setting year- which translates to lots of visitors spending lots of time and money in our town!
The rains have visited us again, the wildflower season looks good, and judging by holiday sales, the economy looks like it has turned a corner. 2012 promises to be a great year and a real cause for optimism! Locally, we can anticipate the completion of some community projects, such as the plans for our city pools, work on Morning Glory Drive and the Austin Street Bridge, and the renovation of Ladybird Golf Course.
Fredericksburg continues to prosper with the help of hard-working business people, talented volunteers, citizen committees, and dedicated public servants in our hospital, schools, and government. Together, we have accomplished so much and together we can continue to achieve our goal of having a community that we can all be proud to call home.
As your Mayor, it has been a pleasure to serve you in 2011 and I look forward to working with you in 2012, as together, we move forward for our future.
